It's time to join the Open Access Movement

A tribute to Aaron Swartz

Aaron Swartz

Our call to action

$140 bn

Amount spent by the US taxpayers each year in support of academic research.

61.5%

The portion of university library budgets spent to access publicly funded research.

30%

The minimum profit margin made by the large publishing houses like Elsevier.

The public funds academic research, which they, nor universities can access for free because large publishing houses like Elsevier, Springer Nature and Wiley lock it behind expensive paywalls. This allows them to make huge profits.

Open Access (OA) is a broad international movement and seeks to grant free and immediate online access to academic research. Aaron's Kit shares the vision of Open Access and strives to become the world's first and largest repository of complete journals behind paywalls that will be available to the public for free.

"With enough of us, around the world, we'll not just send a strong message opposing the privatization of knowledge - we'll make it a thing of the past."

— Aaron Swartz
